One of the many stories you see around the time NFL schedules are release relates to the strength of schedule for each team. Writers pore over each schedule and look at the win/loss records from each opponent in the prior season, and start making determinations on what teams have easier paths to the playoffs than others.
But given how much changes each offseason, a win/loss record in 2019 might have little bearing on a team’s fortunes in 2020. That means there are better ways to calculate strength of schedule. One such way is done by the staff at Football Outsiders.
