DALLAS – Anthony Davis was just 5 years old when Dirk Nowitzki made his NBA debut Feb. 5, 1999, so it’s understandable that Davis’ recollections of Nowitzki’s early years in the league are a bit hazy or nonexistent. But after competing against the future Hall of Famer and career-long Dallas Maverick for three-plus seasons, Davis has immense respect for what Nowitzki has accomplished for his city and franchise. Dallas was one of the worst teams in all of pro sports throughout much of the 1990s, but after acquiring Nowitzki, the Mavericks have been perennial contenders and captured their only NBA title (2011).
