For the second time in the past 10 days, New Orleans prepared for a game it needs to win in order to save the season. After beating San Antonio on the final night of the regular season April 15 to get in the NBA playoffs, the Pelicans can only stay in them Saturday if they defeat top-seeded Golden State in the Smoothie King Center. The experience of a win-or-go-home day is something Pelicans fifth-year head coach Monty Williams believes could be beneficial to his team.
“Not many young teams can say they’ve been through what we have,” Williams said, also alluding to a two-month regular-season stretch in which NOLA was locked in a tight race with Oklahoma City for eighth place.
