The New Orleans Pelicans were set up for a fairly quiet offseason. With not a lot of cap room and the core of the roster locked in place, the only real intrigue the Pelicans faced was how much Omer Asik would be re-signed for. Then everything changed in an instant on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pelicans decided that head coach Monty Williams was not the man for the job in the long run and fired him with a year and an option left on his contract. The move came as a surprise after Williams and the rest of the organization received a letter of support from owner Tom Benson after making the playoffs despite a ton of injuries to the Pelicans core.
