The New Orleans Pelicans are entering the second season of center Omer Asik‘s albatross of a contract. This past season highlighted the flaws of Asik’s very limited game. Asik sputtered all season, stumbling to a very disappointing stat line of four points and 4 rebounds per game as his minutes plummeted despite starting 64 of the 68 games he played in.
Now, Asik still possesses some skill on the basketball court, evidenced by the fact his rebounding largely stayed consistent to his performances over the past years. Also, Asik still possesses the ability to play solid defense in a pinch, but, with the majority of the NBA shifting to a fast style, the slow footed Asik has had his weakness vastly overshadow his strengths.
