New Orleans Pelicans: How projected salary cap affects team’s outlook

Projecting into the future can be a dangerous game in the NBA, but it does seem like the Pelicans outlook might allow exciting changes in the future. However, with the breaking of some news today, the NBA is giving all the teams in the league a little more space to make expensive moves.

Early this afternoon, Shams Charania of The Athletic announced the league would raise its salary cap over the next few seasons, allowing teams to dip further into their wallets when constructing a roster.

According to Charnia, the league will increase the salary cap for the 2020-2021 season to $116 million at the baseline, with a maximum cap of $141 million for teams willing to pay the luxury tax for an additional $25 million in cap room.
