When the New Orleans Pelicans announced that they had decided on Alvin Gentry to become their next head coach, the decision was met with plenty of praise for Gentry’s offensive mind with one important caveat; Gentry and the Pelicans had to make sure to hire a lead assistant with a strong defensive background. While many names have been floated around since Gentry was hired, ESPN’s Marc Stein reported early this morning that the Pelicans already have their target in mind and have quickly moved into hiring him.
The New Orleans Pelicans are in advanced negotiations to hire Darren Erman away from the Boston Celtics to serve as a defensive guru under new head coach Alvin Gentry, according to league sources.
