The New Orleans Pelicans looked phenomenal in their season opener tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies. Their defensive rotations were crisp, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins shut down the paint, and Boogie was outstanding.
That would be the lede for this recap if the game ended after the first quarter.
The Pelicans led the game 34-27 after the first 12 minutes but then only scored 36 points in the next 24.
Mike Conley was sensational, flummoxing the Pelicans guards and bigs as he used screens to create openings in the Pels’ defense. He finished the game with 27 points and three assists on 60 percent shooting.
