According to The Advocate and The Times-Picayune, the New Orleans Pelicans waived veteran guard Toney Douglas on Tuesday.
This move was expected for two reasons: First, his $1.31 million salary for next season would have become fully guaranteed if he were not released by Tuesday's deadline. Second, the Pelicans have added several guards to the roster this offseason via the draft and free agency.
The Pelicans used the No. 6 selection in the 2016 NBA draft to take Oklahoma shooting guard Buddy Hield. In July they came to terms with free agents E'Twaun Moore (Chicago), Langston Galloway (New York) and re-signed Tim Frazier.
