It was only Elvis Valcarcel’s second season as an NBA video coordinator in Phoenix, yet following Game 4 of the 2010 Western Conference finals, his name made the national airwaves. After Suns forward Channing Frye broke out of a 1-for-14 series slump from three-point range with four treys in a win over the Lakers, TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager asked Frye on live TV about Valcarcel’s specific impact. A day earlier, at then-Phoenix head coach Alvin Gentry’s request, Valcarcel had spliced together a video for Frye to watch, containing all of Frye’s successful three-pointers from that season, to help him break out of his funk.
