DeMarcus Cousins downplays significance of Kings game; Pelicans to own D-League team

Appearing to channel something similar to the famous “both teams played hard” press conference by Rasheed Wallace years ago, DeMarcus Cousins spent the first couple minutes of his media session Thursday smiling and providing basic quotes about Friday’s game vs. Sacramento. At one point, the three-time All-Star even pretended not to know who the next opponent was on the schedule.

“Who are we playing tomorrow?” Cousins asked reporters.

“Sacramento.”

“For real? ... It’s another chance to play hard and get a win.”

Despite the external hype surrounding Friday’s first game for Cousins against his old team – tickets were selling quickly for Kings-Pelicans even back in February – the center has given no indication that he’s treated it as a special occasion.
