Dante Cunningham to test free agency after declining option

New Orleans Pelicans forward Dante Cunningham plans to decline his player option for the 2017-18 season and become an unrestricted free agent this summer, league sources told ESPN.

Cunningham, 30, has a deadline of June 21 to officially decline his $3.1 million player option. He will seek a new multiyear deal.

The versatile forward was the Pelicans' top 3-point shooter at a career-high 39.2 percent during the 2016-17 campaign after making only two 3s in his first six years in the league from 2009-10 to 2014-15. He averaged 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season while shooting 48.
