Anthony Davis ascended to the top of the league, ranking among the league's best players and looked like an MVP candidate for years to come. The Pelicans made an upgrade in their coaching staff, hiring for Suns head coach Alvin Gentry, who was coming off a stint as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors.
