LAS VEGAS – During his lone season at Kansas, Cheick Diallo scored a total of 33 baskets in 27 games, averaging just 3.0 points. His only double-figure scoring performances came against Loyola, Md. (13 points) and Holy Cross (12 points), not exactly powerhouses on the college hoops scene. Perhaps that explains why many pre-draft scouting reports described him as “raw” and “unpolished” at the offensive end.
Through two summer league games, however, Diallo has shown more ability than many draft analysts may have expected, averaging 11.5 points on 58.8 percent shooting from the field. Several of his baskets have been of the opportunistic variety – including clean-up offensive boards and follow tip slams – but he’s also shown confidence in his mid-range jumper, taking one turnaround that rimmed out Sunday vs.
