The New Orleans Pelicans had their choice of coaches to fill their recent opening because of a single reason. With Anthony Davis on the roster the Pelicans gave every potential head coach a chance to coach one of the three best players in basketball who happens to be just 22 years old. It was a chance that just isn’t presented at all and one that brought plenty of interest from every major coaching candidate.

Alvin Gentry eventually won the chance to coach Davis and part of the reason turned out to be the fact that he came ready to prove to the Pelicans brass that Davis needed the ball even more than he already gets it, according to a report from Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area.
