Anthony Davis and West own two-win streak in All-Star Game, but that’s secondary to enjoying weekend

To gauge how seriously the Western Conference is taking the 66th edition of the NBA All-Star Game, one could’ve listened to head coach Steve Kerr during his team’s open practice Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

“OK guys,” Golden State’s sideline boss instructed his 12 players, “we are going to do a five-man weave, to pretend like we’re practicing.”

A smiling Kerr previously had joked on the live microphone, which was heard by thousands of fans, “Wait, so I actually have to coach?”

While conference bragging rights will be at stake Sunday (7 p.m. Central, TNT) and you don’t make it to the elite level of pro basketball without being competitive, Pelicans forward/center Anthony Davis expressed similar thoughts Saturday about his fourth All-Star Game.
