Infusing his introductory press conference Monday with ample doses of enthusiasm and optimism, new Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry wasted little time before discussing New Orleans’ upside, based on 22-year-old All-Star Anthony Davis and a surrounding core of players with room to improve.
“This team when you look at it, the core players are in that age where you’re ready to really take off. That 25 to 28 range is when most of the guys in this league really reach their peak,” Gentry said. “The core of our players are right in that age group, so I think you’re going to see a situation where if we can keep everybody healthy – obviously health is a big factor – I think we can do a lot of good things.
