Twice per NBA regular season, Pelicans player development coach Jamelle McMillan experiences a unique rarity in his profession, competing in a game against his own father, Pacers assistant coach Nate McMillan. Following a 12-year playing career with the Seattle SuperSonics from 1986-98, Nate transitioned into coaching, becoming the Sonics’ head coach in 2000. Nate was an NBA head coach for 12 years, including seven with Portland, prior to joining Indiana’s staff under Frank Vogel for the past two seasons.
Given his father’s roots in the league, Jamelle has enjoyed many indelible NBA experiences dating back to his childhood in Seattle.
