Thatcher, ex-Aggie, named Army football’s offensive coordinator

Drew Thatcher played college football at New Mexico State in the years Hal Mumme was running the “Air Raid” offense.

His next coaching job, however, will be directing an entirely different kind of attack.

The Hot Springs High alumnus and former Aggie has been named offensive coordinator at Army, which sticks to the ground as the service academies are wont to do. Army ran the ball six times (648 to be precise) more than it passed (104) during its 6-6 season under Jeff Monken.

Thatcher has been coaching for the last four years as offensive coordinator at NCAA Division II Nebraska Kearney, which went 8-3 this past season, then lost its head coach — Eunice native and Eastern New Mexico alum Josh Lynn — to West Texas A&M.
