PHOENIX – The New Mexico State baseball team took on Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon in the rubber match of the weekend series on Sunday at Brazell Field. The Lopes put up runs in five separate innings and the Aggies could not mount a comeback falling in the series finale, 8-4.
NM State (28-16, 12-6 WAC) threw opposite left-hander Ethan Evanko for Grand Canyon (25-19, 12-3 WAC). Following a pair of lopsided contests the starting pitchers looked to keep the score in game three a bit closer, but the offenses got going early.
After a scoreless top of the first, the Lopes got on the board in the bottom half.
