LAS CRUCES — The era of coach Greg Heiar has its soft opening Wednesday night when the New Mexico State men’s basketball team hosts NCAA Division II Western New Mexico in an exhibition game (7 p.m., Pan Am Center, streaming on espn+).
It won’t be just the coach who is unfamiliar — other than Mike Peake and Chi Chi Avery, the entire Aggie roster will be new. Like Peake (formerly of Georgia in 2019-20), four of the new guys have previous experience with Power Five programs.
Heiar replaces Chris Jans, one of his former bosses at two other schools.
