New Aggies coach adds one of his former players

Issa Muhammad, a 6-foot-9 forward who played on this past season’s junior college national championship team at Northwest Florida State College, is following its coach Greg Heiar to Las Cruces.

NMSU in its statement announcing Muhammad’s signing called him a “top-30” junior college player. The Atlanta native averaged 9.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.8 blocked shots through the Raiders’ 36-game season.

Heiar, who replaces Chris Jans as New Mexico State coach, said Muhammad sacrified individual statistics to help Northwest Florida win, and “(d)on’t be surprised if you’re not watching him in the future this time of year on TV.
