BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The New Mexico State men's tennis team came out on top, 4-3, in a thrilling back-and-forth match against Missouri-Kansas City and captured its second-straight Western Athletic Conference Championship.
With the win, the Aggies (12-9) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive season and fourth time in program history (1997, 2000, 2015).
Sophomore Christofer Goncalves played the hero once again for NM State against UMKC (17-8) on Sunday. With the match tied at 3-3, Goncalves dropped the second set in a tiebreaker to Andrey Smirnov 7-6 (8-6).
