KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Pascal Siakam scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and his free throw with 10 seconds left in the game proved to be the winner as New Mexico State clinched back-to-back Western Athletic Conference championships by holding off Missouri-Kansas City 62-61 on Saturday afternoon.
With CSU Bakersfield beating Grand Canyon 77-62 on Saturday, NMSU won the outright men’s champion of the Western Athletic Conference.
Coach Marvin Menzies’ team swept the head-to-head series with UMKC, but both were one-point wins over the Kangaroos (10-18, 3-10).
“It’s good to see the adversity and the response,” said Menzies.
