ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Former Aggie pitcher Tyler Sturdevant was called up by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Sturdevant is just the fourth Aggie in school history to have their contract selected by a major league team, joining Fernando Ramsey (Chicago Cubs), Mark Acre (Oakland A's) and Jason Rakers (Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals).
Sturdevant, a native of Littleton, Colo., has pitched to a 1.56 ERA in 17.1 innings with two saves and 21 strikeouts in 14 games this season for the Durham Bulls, the AAA Affiliate of the Rays. He owns a career record of 20-12 and a 2.
