LAS VEGAS, Nev. — March Madness in Sin City obviously isn’t dependent on sports fans from Albuquerque.
But that’s not to say the Duke City hasn’t left its mark on one of the busier betting weeks of the year for the Las Vegas sports books
Starting with the enormity of Saturday’s UFC 196 betting action on Albuquerque’s own Holly Holm and now with the city being overrun by college basketball fans, including the UNM Lobos’ usual contingent of several thousand strong, Las Vegas is more than happy to be opening its doors again to New Mexicans.
“It’s strong,” said Jay Rood, an Albuquerque native and New Mexico State alumnus who is the vice president for MGM Resorts International in charge of sports book operations at the company’s numerous properties.
