LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Playing in their second five-set match of the day, New Mexico State battled with the Pac 12's Arizona Wildcats at the Springhill Suites Invitational but fell in five sets, 25-14, 25-14, 25-27, 21-25, 12-15, at Pan American Center on Friday night.
NM State (3-2, 0-0 WAC) dominated the first set, 25-14, hitting .343 while holding the Wildcats (4-1, 0-0 Pac 12) to just .088 hitting. Katie Birtcil was phenomenal in frame, connecting on six kills on nine swings with zero errors.
The second set was more of the same with NM State hitting .
