PHOENIX – New Mexico State softball opened its run at the Western Athletic Conference tournament with a contest against host Grand Canyon at GCU Softball Stadium on Thursday. The second-seeded Aggies topped the third-seeded Lopes 1-0 with hitting a walk-off home run during the victory.
NM State (32-20) and GCU (31-23) went scoreless through the first six innings of the game with starting pitchers and Ryan Denhart battling in the circle.
Diaz posted a scoreless top of the seventh, the New Mexico State squad had a chance to rally in the bottom of the frame.
