Women’s college basketball: UNM looks to use anger as motivation

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Tonight’s Mountain West women’s basketball battle in Boise, Idaho, may come down to one intangible:

Which team is angrier?

The University of New Mexico Lobos and Boise State Broncos both have plenty to be upset about, but turning such frustration into motivation can be easier said than done.

UNM (12-11, 5-7) is still smarting from a buzzer-beating, 59-58 loss Saturday at San Jose State. The Lobos took a one-point lead with 2.7 seconds remaining but failed to prevent Riana Byrd’s winning layup as time expired.

“It was hard watching film of that one,” Lobo senior Bryce Owens said.
