It’s not exactly an ideal time for an open date.
The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team drew something of a short straw this week with one of its two Mountain West off dates coming on opening night.
Plan B for the Lobos is a Thursday non-conference matchup against South Carolina State at the Pit. The game was a late addition to the schedule and comes at a good time for UNM, which opens MWC play Sunday with a nationally televised home game against Air Force.
The other 10 Mountain West women’s teams were scheduled to tip off league play Thursday, although one game (San Diego State at Boise State) was postponed Wednesday due to travel issues.
