UTEP women’s 3-pointers the difference in beating UNM

EL PASO — Sometimes playing the percentages simply doesn’t pay.

The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team got most of what it wanted at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center on Wednesday, scoring effectively and taking away what the host Miners usually do best offensively.

UTEP beat the odds, however, lighting it up from 3-point range and grabbing a 70-62 victory. Lulu McKinney led the assault for the Miners (6-0), going 6-of-8 from long range and scoring a game-high 22 points.

It was a frustrating outing for UNM (4-3), which outrebounded the Miners and largely outplayed them over the final 32 minutes.
