Updated: Men’s basketball: UNM holds on to beat Oral Roberts

The Lobos had fun.

For a half.

The commanding 25-point halftime lead UNM built against Oral Roberts, and a 29-point scoring night from sophomore guard Cullen Neal, was more than enough to overcome a lackadaisical second half as the Lobos cruised to a 91-75 win Tuesday night, improving to 5-1 on the season.

“I think they’re growing, guys,” Lobos coach Craig Neal said. “I really like my team. I think they’re growing. I think they’re going to have some bumps. I think there’s going to be some ups and downs in their play.”

After slow starts plagued the Lobos the previous two games, UNM jumped to a 24-9 lead in the first seven minutes of Tuesday’s game thanks to defensive stops setting up starting guards Cullen Neal and Elijah Brown to toy with the Golden Eagles (6-2) in transition.
