Updated: Lobos high turnover numbers in wins remains hard to explain

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It doesn’t make sense.

“I wish I could figure it out,” Lobos basketball coach Craig Neal said Thursday. “It’s the weirdest stat ever.”

The UNM Lobos (12-8, 5-2 Mountain West) have cruised, mostly comfortably, through the first month of league play doing the one thing some coaches will tell you is a leading factor in what leads many teams to losing.

They’re turning the ball over like crazy, but it doesn’t seem to matter. In fact, somehow, they are performing better in the games when they turn the ball over more often.
