MINNEAPOLIS — Homecomings don’t get much sweeter than the one Khadijah Shumpert enjoyed Wednesday.
The University of New Mexico senior and Minneapolis native torched her former hometown team, scoring a career-best 27 points as the visiting Lobos took a convincing 72-53 women’s basketball victory over Minnesota at Williams Arena.
Shumpert was a force on both ends of the court, going 10-of-13 from the floor, 7-of-7 from the foul line and racking up eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. She scored 21 points in the second half when UNM (7-3) extended a 35-31 lead to a 22-point cushion.
