UNM realizes (very) modest 2014-15 athletics budget gain

University of New Mexico’s athletics department balanced its budget for just the second time in the past eight years – despite personnel costs rising to an all-time high and ticket revenue slumping in some sports.

Thanks in large part to a $1.2 million bump in revenue distribution from the Mountain West Conference in 2014-15, UNM finished in the black by a modest $3,554, according to operating budget figures the Journal obtained through an Inspection of Public Records Act request.

“These are challenging times in college athletics,” said UNM athletic director Paul Krebs, who over the summer signed a four-year contract with the school that is scheduled to run through the 2018-19 school year.
