For the No. 22 New Mexico Lobos, one of three Division I men’s basketball teams left in the country still carrying an undefeated record, Saturday’s Mountain West Conference game in Laramie, Wyoming, carries plenty of importance.
The Lobos (13-0, 1-0) are well aware that with each win they accumulate – like Wednesday’s 88-69 victory over Colorado State in the Pit – the target grows on their back for teams eager to hand them their first loss.
But for the Lobos, already off to the second-best start in program history, they insist after last season’s losing record, they still have plenty to prove as well.
