Steve Kirkland has joined the University of New Mexico Athletics with the title of Director of Athletic Communications, the school said Thursday. He will be the primary contact for Lobo men’s basketball, a position filled through the past season by Chelsea Pitvorec. Kirkland will also work with UNM men’s and women’s golf.
Kirkland is a 2001 Penn State graduate who in the past has worked with athletic programs at Wake Forest in Virginia.
He is a native of Shippensburg, Pa., and said in a news release that a visit to a basketball game at the Pit when he was a kid “cemented my love of college basketball.
