While the University of New Mexico searches for a new women’s basketball coach, members of the program’s incoming freshman class, all of whom signed in November, have been putting their cell phones to good use.
Hannah Sjerven, Sammie Woodward, Brittany Panetti and Mykiel Burleson have been in frequent contact with interim coach Amy Beggin – and with each other.
Sjerven, a 6-foot-2 center from Rogers, Minn., said the incoming freshmen remain committed to playing for the Lobos but admitted last week’s firing of fifth-year coach Yvonne Sanchez made for a stressful spring break.
