LAS VEGAS, Nev. — That’s a wrap for the 2015-16 UNM Lobos basketball season.
Despite unified optimism after Thursday’s Mountain West Tournament quarterfinal loss to Nevada among Lobos head coach Craig Neal and UNM administration, not to mention a signed agreement with the College Basketball Invitational to host a game in their postseason tournament next week, the program had a change of heart Friday morning.
Deputy Athletic Director Janice Ruggiero told the Journal she, Athletic Director Paul Krebs and Neal talked Friday morning and decided it was in the best not to play in the CBI.
“Myself, Paul and Craig spoke this morning and we all agreed it was a long season and we think we’re going to forgo playing,” said Ruggiero, who noted this coming week is spring break at UNM and an opportunity for the players to enjoy that instead of continuing to practice and play would be best.
