Shaiquel McGruder and LaTora Duff played starring roles as the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team opened Mountain West play – and 2023 – with an impressive 70-58 win over Air Force on Sunday at the Pit.
Playing in front of a national television audience (CBS Sports Network broadcast the game) the Lobos played effectively and efficiently on both ends of the court. UNM (9-5, 1-0) shot 50.9% from the field, limited Air Force (6-9, 1-1) to 34.8% shooting and answered every challenge by the Falcons.
“I thought we played very well for our first conference game,” said McGruder, who was in a position to know.
