A New Mexico Bowl appearance for the New Mexico Lobos, UNM athletic director Paul Krebs said, is no financial bonanza for the UNM athletic department.
A small profit or merely breaking even, he said, would be just fine.
“The real winner is Albuquerque and the community,” Krebs said.
As for UNM and the Lobos, he said, the payoff is national television exposure on ESPN and forward momentum for the program.
“There’s no real financial windfall for participating in the game,” Krebs said this week in a phone interview. “And I would argue that that’s true of most bowl games.
