ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — For the second time in five weeks of the college basketball season, UNM sophomore guard Elijah Brown on Monday was named the Mountain West’s Player of the Week.
The 6-foot-4 transfer from Butler scored 25 points in Saturday’s comfortable victory over Northern Iowa in the Pit, which was the only game the Lobos played last week.
He was also honored as Player of the Week on Nov. 16, the day after scoring 31 points and grabbing six rebounds in a road win against New Mexico State in Las Cruces on Nov. 15.
“I think Elijah knows how to play the game,” Lobos coach Craig Neal said on Monday, adding again that many people seem to still be reluctant to think of Brown as more than “just a shooter.
