Don’t tell Carlos Wiggins the triple option is not a passing offense.
Don’t tell the Wyoming Cowboys that, either.
In the New Mexico Lobos’ 38-28 victory over Wyoming last Saturday, UNM threw just eight passes. They ran the ball 47 times. The Lobos’ five completions netted 107 yards; the ground game produced 302.
One of those five completions, though, went for a 64-yard touchdown to Wiggins from quarterback Lamar Jordan in the second quarter, giving the Lobos a 21-7 lead.
That play was as much a part of UNM’s base triple-option attack, Wiggins said, as any of those 47 running plays.
