Lobos picked fourth in MW, sweep preseason awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The University of New Mexico women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Mountain West and swept the preseason awards the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

The voting panel consisted of the league's 11 head coaches and select women's basketball media from around the conference. UNM collected four first-place votes (there were 25 votes total) and 186 points – only behind Boise State (221 points, seven first-place votes), Wyoming (216 points, six first-place votes) and Colorado State (211 points, six first-place votes).

UNM's Cherise Beynon was selected to the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, N'Dea Flye was selected Preseason Freshman of the Year and transfer Tesha Buck was named the Preseason Newcomer of the Year as the Lobos swept the preseason award.
