ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — They say they knew what they were getting into.
Cullen Neal — the polarizing local high school basketball star, going to play point guard for his dad, UNM men’s basketball coach Craig Neal for the most visible sports team in the state — was going to come with scrutiny, plenty of criticism and numerous headaches.
But this season, especially starting in December when the sophomore guard and the entire Lobos team was struggling through a four-game losing streak heading into conference play, the criticism from some Lobo basketball fans began taking a turn well beyond the expected.
