ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A major story line of the New Mexico Lobos’ 2016 football spring practice has been the vast potential displayed at tight end by former quarterback Cole Gautsche.
Without question, the possibilities presented by Gautsche’s size, speed and ball skills are tantalizing.
Yet, more often that not, when the first-team offense is called upon, it’s Nick Lehman who trots onto the field at tight end.
Lehman, a senior from Bellflower, Calif., has potential and possibilities of his own. With tight ends Reece White and Chris Edling having exhausted their eligibility last fall, there are slots to be filled.
