Most Unusual Lobo.
Despite having played just one full season Whitney Johnson seems to have this distinction well in hand.
Consider: The 6-foot-2 post from Highland, Utah, played her first game for the University of New Mexico women’s basketball team on Nov. 11, 2011 against Texas Tech. She’s now getting ready for her redshirt sophomore season.
A great deal has happened in the five years since Johnson committed to play for then-Lobos coach Don Flanagan, some good, some not. But it’s certainly safe to say her college career has not progressed the way anyone expected.
Injuries have played a large role.
