The end goal hasn’t changed.
As enjoyable as the resurgence of the Pit this season has been with men’s basketball fans flocking back to watch their Lobos at University Arena, ranked inside the Top 30 nationally out of 363 Division I teams in average home attendance for the first time since 2017 – UNM would much rather not have its team and its fans in that home gym together again soon.
But that might happen, if the NIT comes calling. And not even the Pit’s annual PBR Bullriding event, which has created a scheduling conflict in the past with Women’s NIT games, would prevent UNM from hosting at least a couple of men’s or women’s postseason games this time around.
