New Mexico linebacker Ryan Langford and punter Zack Rogers were named Mountain West Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week by the conference on Monday. It’s the first honor either senior has received during their careers.
Langford had eight tackles along with two key turnovers in UNM’s 31-24 win over Boise State. His first takeaway came on Boise State’s opening drive when he picked off quarterback Brett Rypien at the 3-yard line. The next turnover also came with the Broncos in scoring position when Langford recovered a fumble at the 1-yard line.
Langford started the game for a suspended Kimmie Carson, who was forced to sit out the first half after a helmet-to-helmet hit against Utah State.
