ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Markel Byrd is much like Lobo football. Promising. Maddening. Frustrating. Fun.
Byrd arrived at Bob Davie’s doorstep a couple of years ago — a quarterback and basketball player from the beautiful city of San Diego.
His high school coach called him “Captain Chaos” because he thrived when plays broke down.
So there he was, late Saturday night, early Sunday morning, in Boise, Idaho, playing football on a blue turf, when potential catastrophe found him. The Lobos led potent Boise State 31-24 with one second left and the Broncos had one desperate gasp in them.
